 | Andrew Roy's Raising Teenage Boys published 2012 in print, e-book and audio book
"Not since Steve Biddulph have we heard such a refreshing voice trumpeting the cause for raising our boys in a more engaged and present manner. Andy Roy makes this complex and complicated journey simple, clear and exceptionally emotionally engaged. Roy sets the social context beautifully, addresses the functionality of the teenage brain, and offers simple and easy to apply strategies that put parents on the same page (even separated ones!) and take the conflict out of the parent-child relationship. If all boys were raised according to Roy's simple philosophy, I can't help feeling that the world would be a very different place for young men and those they love. This book is a right of passage for all those parents travelling the journey of raising boys!"

ROYES. - On the 23rd instant, at the residence of her son-in-law, Denham Street, Rockhampton, Edward Hugham Royes, only brother of the Hon. Charles John Royes, Windsor Castle, Jamaica and uncle of Dr Royes Bell, London, and father of Mrs. Alexander Henry, of Rockhampton. Aged 72 years. - Sydney and home papers please copy.
[NOTES:
1. Edward was not the only brother of Charles John Royes (who had in fact died the year before, but the Australian family seem to be unaware of that) but he may have been the only surviving brother. In which case he was the last surviving son of Solomon and Mary Royes.
2. "Mr. Alexander Henry" is a misprint - elsewhere it is Mrs. Alex... Which daughter married Alexander Henry? probably Eleanor?] |

 | Mareeba Hospital Children's Night [Date not known but would be mid 1920s]
MAREEBA HOSPITAL BALL - CHILDREN'S NIGHT.
A happy crowd of children participated in the revels of the children's night of the annual hospital balls. Eileen Noonan as "Butterfly" and Thelma Kimmins headed the grand march, which was much appreciated by the spectators.
Among others in fancy costume were: "Cotton Queen," Dorothy Smallwood; "Dutch Girl," Eileen Ford; "Knitting Craze," Veda Kelly; "Cooks," Majory and Desmond White; "Dafodils" Mickie and Elsie Love; "Honeysuckle," Molly Muir; "Gypsy," Catherine Muir; "Gum Nut Baby" Isabel Muir; "Boy Blue," Archie Muir; "Butterfly" Veda Bauerle; "Queen of Roses," Gwen Bauerle; "Xmas Tree," Ivy Brown; "Alladin," Fred Scott; "Princess," Marjory Scott; "Johnny Horner," Ruth Royes; "Jack Benimble" May Royes; "Black Gin," Joe Greer; "Red Devil," Lionel Adcock; "Stockman," Lance Bottrell; "Sundowner," Tom Noonan; "Swagmen," W. Greer and Dan Ford; "Jackie Coogan" Claude Cater. By far the greatest number did not don fancy dress. "Cotton Queen" and "Jackie Coogan" won the prizes for best girl and best boy respectively, and both donated their half guineas back to the hospital, and were publicly thanked by the Rev. Father Phelan (president of the hospital committee) on behalf of the hospital.
"Cotton Queen", a strikingly pretty costume, represented the cotton industry in Mareeba, and little Dorothy Smallwood's sceptre was surmounted with a bouquet of cotton in the three stages - flower, bolls, and matured cotton, all from the one stem of a cotton tree on her father's farm. The decisions were by voting cards, and "Cotton Queen" won by a large majority.
Arrangements for the children's night were similar to the first night. At 10.30 the children marched out to supper, and the adults took the floor till mid-night. |

 | Misses Royes arrive in Sydney This record raises the question as to whether Edward sailed with his sisters, or was already in Sydney where he was cabin boy on the Surry 26 Nov 1831 (aged 15).
A vessel named the Bencoolen of 416 tons was built in 1818 and wrecked in 1844 near Liverpool, England, with the loss of at least 13 lives. Is this the same Bencoolen on which Maria, Edward and Emily Royes sailed to Sydney in 1838?
