R~RFL is a collection of data, stories and photos about those families brought together through the marriage of Maurie Roy and May Royes in Cairns, Queensland, Australia in 1940
There is a particular emphasis on tracing the ancestors and descendants of Solomon Royes (1774-1842), London and St Helier; and of James Russell (1784-after 1851), Larne
Most common surnames are Hougham/Huffam, Royes, Hogan, Weatherburn, Girvan, Theoff, Bailey, Smith, Roy, Robinson, Russell
As at 03 Jan 2009 we have 5805 people in 2016 families in the Roy~Royes tree. Read About this site

NOTICE
My Reunion software renumbered most people and families while reimporting its own GEDCOM! Links from people and families to photographs, documents, etc. are dependent on these numbers. I have repaired the media links, but links within histories, articles, overviews, etc are still in process of being repaired.

Photos?? Deb and Libby Sara are particularly keen to obtain more information on Jane Elliott Hougham Royes, their maternal grandmother. She died when their mother, Desme Harvey Sara, was a baby, and Desme has not even seen a photo of her and had no contact at all with the Royes clan. Their dearest wish is to track down a photo of Jane before Mum dies. One of Jane's brothers died as recently as 1983 and they are hopeful that there may be some photographs.
Overview charts set out to provide a broader picture than the ancestor and descendant charts in a person's file. A key chart is that of Solomon Hougham (1475-1518). From Solomon come most of the modern Houghams/Huffams and their branches - Royes, Theoff, Young, etc.

Joe Weatherburn was one of a party who were the first to "go up and over" Queensland's highest mountain, Mt Bartle Frere, in 1919.
Another member of the party, Dave Imrie, tells the story to The Tableland Examiner in 1939.
Read Romance of Bartle Frere.
Also, a new addition to our sister site, The Hougham/Huffam Family Tree, is the original work of Marian Hurley Pratt produced in the 1950s.
Origins of family names is not yet fully developed- you may be able to contribute? - but the plan is to deal with the main surnames in the family tree. The surname Roy is a particular challenge since it can have Gaelic, French or Indian origins. And is Royes a variant or does it have a separate origin?
Reports gather information from the data around certain themes. For example, the Migrations report gathers information from people's stories about their movements and sorts it chronologically. In our data, the earliest migration to Australia is the unwilling transportation of Daniel Jurd in 1802. The first recorded free settler was Robert Campbell jr in 1805. (There may be other migrations but unless there is a date - even approximate - they cannot show in this report.)
