Viewing information for people

This is a typical menu on a person's page.

indiv

Each of the tabs on the first row has a sub-menu that appears on the second row - "Individual" with its sub menus is illustrated. What is in the sub-menus depends on whether the information is present. For example, if there are no media attached to the person, "Media" will not appear in his/her sub-menu.

As you can see in the line below "Individual", there are several options - again, this may vary depending on your access privileges and whether there is information available. The last tab is "Edit" for registered users with edit privileges, otherwise it will read "Suggest".

persinfo

Personal Information shows the basic data we have for a person. There are several sections:

  • Vital information (birth, marriage, death, etc), where they have lived, their occupation, religion. This section shows their ID as used on this site. It shows which tree - there is only one! It may also indicate which branch. You can also tell when this information was last modified.
  • The person's parents are shown with their vital information, together witjh any media associated with the family. The family ID is shown and there is a link to the family page ("Group Sheet" or "Family Group").
  • The person's own family is shown together with any family media linked to the family. Again, its ID is shown and there is a link to the family page ("Group Sheet" or "Family Group").
media

The Media section shows all media linked to the individual - photos, headstones, documents, histories, articles.

map

The Event Map plots any places contained in the data. You have several options for how you see the map. The coloured pins are explained below the map. On the right is the list of events plotted. Be aware that there are often several pins co-located. Also note the colour of the pin. If it looks like someone was born near Alice Springs in central Australia, check the colour of the pin and the Event list - you may find that all we know is that they were born in Australia and the pin is located in the centre of Australia!

sources Sources are where our information comes from. This helps you to assess how reliable our information is. The first number refers to where on the web page the information relates. The second number in square brackets and beginning with "S" is its reference in our list of sources - which you can view by going to the Info drop down menu and selecting Sources.
