In the name of God Amen.

I Charles Mordaunt Hougham, purser of His Majesties ship Syren now lying in the port of Plymouth in Devonshire, being at present in an ill state of health and being serious of making a disposition of my estate and effects, do make this my will and testament in manner following. I give devise and bequeath unto my cousins Solomon and Charles Hougham of Aldersgate Street, London, silversmiths, all my messuages tenements and dwelling houses of Eastgate, Rochester lately devised to me by my late mother to have and to hold the said messuages tenements and dwelling houses with the appurtenances to the said Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham and their heirs and assigns for ever upon trust and upon the purpose hereinafter mentioned.

Also I give and bequeath a certain exchequer annuity of twenty five pounds per year which I am fully interested in and entitled unto during the remainder of a term of twenty five years ending the twenty fifth day of March one thousand eight hundred and five unto my said two cousins Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham or the survivor of them and his executors administrators, and assigns to have and to hold the said remainder of the said term and the remainder of the said annuity of Twenty five pounds unto the said Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham and the survivor of them his executors administrators and assigns upon trust and for the uses hereinafter mentioned, and all and singular my goods chattels residuary and testamentary estate and effects I give and bequeath unto the said Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham and their executors administrators and assigns upon trust and for the uses and purposes herein after mentioned and declared

and I the said Charles Mordaunt Hougham the testator do hereby will direct and declare that out of my effects shall in the first place be paid all my just debts and funeral expenses and immediately thereon I do hereby declare that the said Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham or the survivor of them his executors or assigns shall and do pay or cause to be paid to my grandmother Mary Hougham the sum of ten pounds of lawful money of Great Britain

also I order and direct Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham to deduct and take for themselves ten pounds each and to whom responsibility I give the same as a legacy I give and bequeath to Mr Stainsby Alchorne of the Tower of London five guineas for a ring in remembrance of me and as a token of my regard for him

and as to for and concerning all and singular all my freehold houses and tenements at Eastgate in Rochester and the residue and remainder of the said exchequer annuity and all and singular my testamentary and residuary estate after payment of the debts funeral expenses and legacies aforesaid directed bequeathed and limited I will direct and order that the said Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham or the survivor of them his executor or administrators shall take and receive the income and produce thereof and every part thereof for and to the use of my said niece Mary Hougham her heirs and assigns for ever and the interest dividends thereof to be paid or applied in the meantime towards her maintenance and Education but if she the said Mary Hougham should happen to die under the age of twenty-one unmarried and without issue or if married should happen to die without issue then and in such case I will direct give and devise the said residuary estate of lands tenements goods chattels annuities money and effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said two cousins Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham and their heirs and assigns in equal shares and proportions and as tenants in common and not as joint tenants nor shall the one of them be benefited by the death of the other of them but the heirs executors administrators of the one of them on his death shall receive and take an equal moiety of the residuary estate and effects with the survivor and his heirs executors and administrators

and I the said testator do hereby revoke and declare void every other will or wills by me made and do declare this to me my last will and testament and testimony whereof I the said Charles Mordaunt Hougham the testator have to this my will set my hand and affixed my seal this twenty sixth day of May one thousand seven Hundred and eighty four [26 May 1784]

Memorandum that the day and year within written and at the execution of the within will I the said testator Charles Mordaunt Hougham do hereby make this to be a codicil to be added unto and to be taken as part of my said will I give and bequeath my gold watch unto Miss Ann March of St Dunstans Hill London as a token of my esteem of her and her family in witness whereof I have hereto set my hand

On the seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and eighty four [17 June 1784] administration with the will annexed of all and singular the goods chattels and credits of Charles Mordaunt Hougham late purser of his Majesties ship Syren deceased was granted to Solomon Hougham and Charles Hougham the residuary legatees in trust named in the said will no executor being named in the said will they having been first sworn to administer.
