I, Mildred Hougham, of London, widow, being in good health of body and of sound and perfect mind and memory (praise be to Almighty God) but duly considering the frailty and uncertainty of this mortal life I do make this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say that

firstly I will that all my just debts and the expenses of my funeral which I leave to the discretion of my executors hereafter named shall be first paid and discharged and to such worldly estate which it has pleased God to bless me I give and dispose of the same as follows viz.

In the first place I do will direct and order that the weekly allowance or payment of thirty shillings given to or appointed to be paid my brother George Mills during his life by the will of my father Edward Mills, deceased, be constantly and duly paid pursuant to the direction and appointment of my said father's will and I also give my said brother George Mills so much more as will make the said weekly allowance or payment one hundred pounds per annum. The said additional part or allowance to be paid either weekly as the other allowance given by my said father or quarterly as to my executor shall seem most proper.

Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Ratcliffe, spinster, one annuity payment of five pounds during her natural life to be paid unto her half yearly by two equal payments the first payment thereof to begin and be made on the second usual quarterly heart day which shall happen next after my decease and I do hereby charge my estate with the before mentioned allowance to my brother and the annuity to the said Mary Ratcliffe.

Item, I do will and order that my executors hereafter named shall forthwith or as soon as they conveniently can after my decease place out at interest either or public or private security as shall be thought most proper or convenient and in their names the sums of Two Hundred pounds in trust nevertheless and for the uses and purposes hereafter intentioned that they my said executors or one of them from time to time pay or cause to be paid the interest and income of the said two hundred pounds to my granddaughter Mary Roberts, for and during the term of her natural life for her own private and particular use. and actions whether sole or married the same to be paid to her half yearly by two equal payments in the year the first payment to be made on the second quarterly heart day that shall happen next after my decease and I will and order that her receipt at all times will be a good and sufficient discharge to my executors or either of them the same it being my mind and intent the said interest or income of the said Two Hundred pounds shall not be subject to the power control or intermeddling of any husband whom she shall intermarry but shall be for her own private and separate use and at her own disposal ...

... and in case she shall be married and shall leave any child or children living at her decease then I give the said two hundred pounds for such child if but one and if more that one to such children equally to be divided between them share and share alike and to be paid such child or children at his her or their age or ages of twenty one years respectively or to or between such of them as shall arrive to the said age but if my said granddaughter Mary Roberts shall not leave any child living at her decease then I will that the said two hundred pounds shall go to and be divided equally between my two executors their executors or administrators.

Item I give to my granddaughter Mary Roberts ten pounds for mourning.

Item. I give to my servant Joshua Bryant the sum of fifty pounds and I do enjoin him to be assisting to my executors if they shall desire it in any matter whatever to do my will and in particular in paying my brother his allowance and providing him cloths and xxxx and I give unto the said Joshua the said Mary Ratcliffe and to Catherine Fagg I give five pounds each for mourning.

Item, I give unto each servant maid that shall be living with me at my decease the sum of five pounds and to William Bryant the brother of said Joshua the like sum of five pounds.

Item, I will that all my plate shall be equally divided between my two daughters. Mildred the wife of Robert Martyn of Chippenham in the county of Wilts and Sarah the wife of John Eden Little of Thames Street and citizen and Salter of London except the plate silver tankard which I give to my said granddaughter Mary Roberts all the rest of my goods chattels and estate whatsoever as will such as shall immediately remain after the before intentioned legacy and annual or other payments and allowances shall be paid and secured or provided for as what shall further accrue and arise when and after such legacies and annual or other payments and allowances shall cease and determine I give and bequeath to my said daughters Mildred and Sarah equally to be divided between them share and share alike whom I make and appoint joint executors of this my will and revoking annulling and making void all former and other wills by me at any time hereto fore and do declare this only to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have to this my will xxx in one sheet of paper set my hand and seal the first day of March in the first year of the reign of our sovereign lord George the second [1 Mar 1727] by the grace of God of Great Britain and France and Ireland King defender of the faith AD1727-
